Strength Does Not Always Mean Healing #47

Soulful Serenity Community

As-salamu alaykum, dear beautiful soul,

Bismillah.

This weekend, I found myself watching, a documentary called The Trials of Winnie Mandela.

And because I’ve always been deeply fascinated by history, especially South African history, Islamic history, and the stories of women throughout history, I’m always drawn to understanding the lives of people who carried immense responsibility, pain, leadership, and influence. I love observing patterns, understanding human behaviour, and trying to see what we can learn from those who came before us.

And while watching this documentary, there was something one of the interviewees said that stayed with me long after it ended.

She said:

“You can be strong, but that doesn’t mean you are resilient.”

And, that sentence lingered with me.

Because so often, especially in our communities and especially as women, strength is something we admire deeply.

We admire the woman who keeps going no matter what.
The woman who survives.
The woman who carries everyone.
The woman who pushes through pain silently.

And when you look at Winnie Mandela’s story, the years of raids, trauma, harassment, the brutality she endured, the 18 months in solitary confinement, raising children in the midst of political violence and fear, you cannot deny the incredible strength she had.

What a remarkable woman.

But at the same time, what also becomes clear is that strength alone does not necessarily mean someone has healed.

Strength does not always mean resilience.

And I think that distinction is such an important one.

Because many of us have learned how to survive… but we haven’t necessarily learned how to process what survival has done to us.

Sometimes strength is simply what we develop because we had no other choice.

And while that strength may carry us through difficult moments, it does not always mean the pain has disappeared. It does not always mean the nervous system healed. It does not always mean the heart found peace.

And this is where I think so many women quietly struggle.

We become praised for how much we can handle… while nobody really asks what carrying all of that is costing us internally.

There’s also this idea many of us grew up with that vulnerability somehow weakens us.

That being emotional means you are not strong.
That crying means you are falling apart.
That asking for support somehow takes away from your resilience.

But I don’t believe that anymore.

I actually think vulnerability is one of the deepest forms of strength.

To allow yourself to feel.
To acknowledge pain instead of suppressing it.
To sit with what hurt you instead of constantly running from it.

That takes courage.

Real courage.

Because healing asks something very different from us than survival does.

Survival says:
“Keep going.”
“Push through.”
“Don’t let anyone see you break.”

But healing says:
“Pause.”
“Feel it.”
“Look at what this has done to you.”
“Allow yourself to soften enough to heal.”

And that is not weakness.

That is resilience.

I think this is also why emotional healing matters so much.

Because healing is not about becoming less strong.
It’s about no longer needing survival mode to carry your entire life.

It’s about understanding your patterns, your emotional responses, your triggers, your fears… and slowly creating safety within yourself again.

And yes, that process can feel vulnerable.

But there is something deeply powerful about a woman who chooses to heal instead of simply continuing to survive.

That is the kind of resilience that transforms generations.

And this is really the heart of the work that I do.

Creating spaces where women can begin understanding themselves more deeply… where vulnerability is not judged, but honoured… where healing becomes a path back to themselves.

If this speaks to something within you, there are still a few openings available this month for new emotional healing clients.

You’re also welcome to explore the workshops, masterclasses, and resources available on my website, including my e-book Journey to Growth, which many women have found to be a beautiful starting point on their healing journey.

You can explore everything here:

And if you feel called to join our growing community of women who are committed to healing, growth, and emotional resilience, you are always welcome.

A Closing Reflection

Maybe strength is not the goal.

Maybe the real question is…

Can you allow yourself to become safe enough to feel again?

Because surviving will keep you functioning.
But healing… healing allows you to finally breathe.

And perhaps true resilience is not found in how much pain you can carry silently…

but in your willingness to gently unpack it, with honesty, softness, and courage.

With sincerity and du’a,
Nazia
