Assalamualaykum, dear beautiful soul,
Bismillah,
Yesterday, my heart broke when I heard the news of journalist Saleh Al Jafarawi. Many of you may have seen his videos he was one of those faces that somehow became familiar, someone who captured not just the horrors of Gaza, but the heart of it.
One of his earliest videos came up in my memories yesterday; he was making a baby laugh while bombs went off in the distance. That image hasn’t left me. Because even in the middle of war, he laughed, he smiled, he comforted, he lived. The sound of war and the sound of joy in one moment. That’s something I’ll never forget.
From those early clips to his final videos celebrating the ceasefire, one thing was so clear: he lived.
He didn’t numb himself to survive. He felt everything: joy, grief, love, pain, and still chose to show up every single day with purpose.
Life isn’t about feeling happy; it's about feeling everything. It’s about allowing yourself to feel to be present with what is, even when it hurts. The laughter, the tears, the joy, the ache. Saleh embodied that.
And then his last few videos… celebrating the ceasefire. Singing. Rejoicing.. And that’s what struck me the most, that in the middle of everything, he truly lived.
When the ceasefire was announced, I’ll be honest, I was cautious, found myself feeling weary, suspicious almost, because we’ve seen the treachery of these oppressors before. But then, as I watched his videos again, his joy, his relief, I realized something, as I watched Saleh’s face light up, dancing and rejoicing with others as though it was Eid, I realized something: he was right. He lived, while I hesitated.
And that made me reflect on myself ,how often small things throw us off. Cold coffee, traffic, our plans not going as expected. We let the smallest inconveniences steal our peace. Yet here was someone living through bombs and blockades, still choosing life.
We only have today and that’s enough. May Allah elevate Saleh and all the martyrs to the highest stations of Jannah. Ameen.
So this morning, when I stepped outside and watched the sunrise, the sky glowing softly while birds flew past, I whispered Alhamdulillah. For breath. For light. For the simple things we take for granted. And I made an intention to live more purposefully, to live fully, and not to waste this gift of being alive

🌅 A Reflection to Carry With You
The lesson I’ve been sitting with since hearing the news of Saleh is this:
Allah created us on purpose, for a purpose.
And when you really let that sink in, it changes the way you live. Because even when life feels uncertain or heavy, you remember you were made for something.
When I watched Saleh, even in the middle of everything happening around him, you could see that he lived with purpose. He woke up every day knowing what he was doing mattered, not for material gain, not for worldly validation, but because he was living in service. Serving his people, telling their stories, holding on to hope.
That’s what purpose does. It gives you energy when things feel impossible. It reminds you that your life has meaning even when it feels small or unseen.
Every one of us was created for that, to live intentionally, to bring hope, to bring joy, to bring light. To love fully, even when things are uncertain. To breathe, to notice, to be present with the ordinary miracles that surround us.
And that’s what truly makes life meaningful, not perfection, but purpose.
So every morning when you wake up, whisper Alhamdulillah, and remind yourself:
“This is what I was made for.”
With Love, Light, and Gratitude
